Where Tegnérlunden sits in the city

Tegnérlunden sits in Vasastaden, among the streets of central Stockholm. Its rocky landscape is part of the park’s character: it was established in the 1890s as one of the city’s characteristic rocky parks. The address is 113 59 Stockholm.

You can make it a brief stop on a local walk or connect it with other nearby places; the one-day Stockholm itinerary offers another way to plan time in the area.

Tegnérlunden’s winding paths follow the terrain past old trees, water features and garden plantings. Take the paths at an unhurried pace to see how the rocky ground shapes the route, then look for the fountain pavilion, stream channel and small arched stone bridge.

The flower garden has a pergola, seating and perennial plantings. Sculptures add another layer to the visit: Carl Eldh’s statue of August Strindberg stands in the upper part of the park, while a bronze sculpture of Astrid Lindgren, created by Maja Lisa Alexandersson, has been there since 1996.

The literary connection extends beyond the sculptures. Tegnérlunden appears in several of Astrid Lindgren’s books, including Mio min Mio. Landscape architect Erik Glemme redesigned the park in the 1940s, adding a fountain pavilion, an artificial stream and an irregularly shaped splash pool.

The Strindberg Museum is about a three-minute walk away, while Strindbergs Intima Teater and Norra Bantorget are each about a four-minute walk away. After the park, the museum makes a natural nearby pairing with its Strindberg statue; you can also continue to Norra Bantorget using this guide to the Stockholm square.

The Astrid Lindgren sculpture and the park’s literary associations give the green space its own reason to pause, while the surrounding landmarks can help shape a longer neighbourhood walk. Choose one nearby stop or link several together according to the time you have.

Tegnérlunden includes a municipal playground at the park’s edge by Upplandsgatan, at Tegnergatan. It has a playhouse with a slide, swings for small and older children, and a sandbox. A fence with gates encloses the play area.

From Upplandsgatan, a paved and fairly steep path leads to the playground; much of the play surface is asphalt or rubber.

The splash pool is filled with water during summer, so check the official site before you go for current local information. The city directs people to report litter, damaged play equipment or other faults through the Tyck till app.

The park and playground were last refurbished during 2011–2012, with work including new lighting, renewed irrigation and stream channel, and renovation of the fountain pavilion and pergola. A staircase from Tegnérgatan to the park was built in 2006.
